Commander Stresses Change of Threats in Nature

13920523000488_PhotoICommander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said the nature of wars in the region has changed as asymmetric battles are more likely to happen, stressing that wars of asymmetry are won by faith and belief and not by hi-tech weapons.
“Today the conditions reigning the region have changed and we are witnessing new forms of threats which are different from the past,” Brigadier General Pourdastan said.

He said today military experts make more referrence to an atmosphere of asymmetric wars, in which two countries with different levels of technological advancements confront each other, but no physical battle takes place.

“Military experts believe that the country with higher technological capabilities will win these wars, but realities on the ground in battlefields show us that victory is not necessarily gained by asymmetry in weaponry, but by asymmetry in faith and belief.”

Brigadier General Pourdastan pointed to the victories of the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement and the Palestinian Hamas movement against Israel in the 33-day war and the 22-day Gaza War, respectively, as corroborative evidence substantiating the same fact, saying, “In these wars we observed that Hezbollah and Hamas with deep faith and strong belief could defeat the enemy which used hi-tech military hardware.”

In July 2010, a senior Iranian commander stressed that the victory of the Lebanese Hezbollah in the 33-day war against the Zionist regime in 2006 and Israel’s failure in the 22-day war against Hamas in the Palestinian territories in 2009 showed that the regime is on the verge of collapse.

“This victory is the beginning of a path which promises the collapse of the Zionist regime at its end,” Iranian Armed Forces Deputy Chief of Staff for Cultural Affairs and Defense Publicity Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri said.
