De facto recognition of Palestinian state showed Israel’s isolation: Iranian envoy

The Iranian ambassador to the United Nations has said the fact that the United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly on Thursday to grant Palestinians limited recognition of statehood showed Israel’s isolation.

The 193-member UN body voted 138 to 9, with 41 abstentions, to recognize Palestine as a non-member observer state.

“The results of votes on the resolution adopted yesterday on granting the non-member observer state status to Palestine showed to what extent the Israeli regime is isolated. It was an indicative for those who blindly support this illegitimate regime that they seriously need to review their policies vis-a-vis this regime,” Ambassador Mohammad Khazaee said during a speech before the UN General Assembly about the situation in the Middle East on Friday.

He also said, “The Palestinians, regardless of their religion or ethnicity through a democratic and peaceful mechanism, should express their opinion freely regarding their fate and future and the kind of state and government they want to have through a referendum with the participation of all inhabitants of Palestine. This is the only solution for a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian crisis.”
