Defense minister says Iran near self-sufficiency

Iran’s defense minister said Monday that the country is taking the final steps in becoming self-sufficient in the production of complicated electronic, optic and telecommunication systems.

Brigadier-General Ahmad Vahidi said Iran has made great progress in developing high-tech hardware, including space systems.

He pointed out that designing and developing secure and stable networks as well as controlling and conducting electronic warfare are examples of the country’s progress towards self-sufficiency.

He also stressed that Iran will firmly respond to any threats against its national security.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad plans to inaugurate several satellite projects on Wednesday, he added.
