Deir Ezzor update: Syrian Army liberates half of Old Airport District – map

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is steadily advancing inside the provincial capital of Deir Ezzor, liberating neighborhood after neighborhood in effort to defeat the remaining Islamic State (ISIS) forces inside the city.

Led by their elite Tiger Forces and 4th Mechanized Division, the Syrian Arab Army stormed the southern part of the Old Airport District this week, liberating at least half of this area after a fierce battle with the Islamic State.

In addition to liberating half of the Old Airport District, the Syrian Arab Army has also been making headway in Al-Hamidiyah, seizing much of the western part of the quarter in a bid to drive the Islamic State to the Euphrates River.

Not to be outdone, another Syrian Army unit is pushing southward in the Al-Jubeileh District, as they attempt to tighten siege on the remaining terrorist forces occupying this part of the city.

In the coming days, the Syrian Arab Army should be in full control of the Al-Hamidiyah Quarter, which will ultimately force the remaining Islamic State terrorists inside the provincial capital to either fight, surrender, or attempt to flee down the Euphrates River.
