Deir Ezzur: SDF Captures Syria’s Largest Oilfield in Cooperation with ISIL

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) managed to impose control over al-Amr oilfield in Eastern Deir Ezzur after ISIL launched an offensive on the pro-government forces and paved the way for the SDF to advances to the energy field, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Sunday.

The SOHR quoted well-informed sources as saying that the SDF fighters entered al-Amr energy field after the ISIL started attacking the army positions around al-Amr oilfield.

ISIL’s heavy offensive forced the army men to retreat from parts of the Eastern bank of the Euphrates River, opposite the town of al-Mayadeen, said the SOHR, adding that later the SDF rushed towards the oilfield and took control over al-Sijan oilfield North of the al-Amr energy field.

The Syrian Army troops had managed to drive ISIL out of al-Amr oilfield in Eastern Deir Ezzur on Saturday.

The army men carried out heliborne operation in al-Amr oilfield in the Northeastern countryside of the newly-liberated town of al-Mayadeen and engaged in fierce clashes with the ISIL, capturing the oilfield ultimately.

Al-Amr is one of the largest oilfields in Syria with almost 30,000 barrels of daily crude production, a gas station and a power plant.
