Demo held in Berlin ahead of Zionist US President Obama visit

z.hashemi20130618035724637Hundreds of people have demonstrated against Washington’s policies in the German capital Berlin on the eve of a visit by US President Barack Obama to the European country.

On Monday, around 400 demonstrators rallied in Berlin in protest against Washington’s use of its assassination drones, which have killed thousands of people in Afghanistan and around the world.

The protest was organized by the German Movement for Peace.

Demonstrators also protested the US government’s National Security Agency (NSA), days after released classified documents exposed electronic surveillance programs collecting internet and phone data on millions of American people.

The US president is scheduled to speak before 4,000 people at the Brandenburg Gate, on Wednesday. The visit also marks the 50th anniversary of former US President John F. Kennedy’s famous “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech.

In a guest editorial for Spiegel Online on June 11, German Justice Minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger said reports that the United States could access and track virtually all forms of Internet communication were “deeply disconcerting” and potentially dangerous.

Reports say German Chancellor Angela Merkel is expected to raise the NSA spying issue with Obama on Wednesday.

The protesters in the German capital also demanded the immediate shutdown of the notorious US-run Guantanamo prison in Cuba and the release of prisoners held there.

The closure of the Guantanamo Bay prison was one of the first vows of the US president when he took office five years ago. Prisoners have complained of abuse and torture, and rights activists and international observers have censured the US government’s use of the detention center.

Most of the prison’s 166 detainees have been on a hunger strike for more than 100 days in protest against their long confinement without charge or trial, as well as the horrible and degrading conditions at the jail.
