Reports say up to six people have been killed after a US drone strike hit Afghanistan’s southern province of Helmand.

According to the police chief of Helmand province, the attack on Kajaki town killed Mullah Abdul Rauf, a former Taliban commander who is believed to have recently joined the ranks of the ISIL terror group.

Reports said in January that Rauf had sworn allegiance to the ISIL. He proclaimed to be deputy leader of the ISIL in Afghanistan.

Local authorities in the area said that the airstrike targeted a vehicle that was transporting up to six people while it was crossing the desert. The car, which was purportedly filled with ammunition, went off.

Rauf was said to have fallen out with the leader of the Taliban militant group, Mullah Omar.

The ISIL terror group now controls a large part of lands in Iraq and neighboring Syria.
