Econimic Crisis for People not for Rulers, Dictators- Queen receives 5 million pounds “salary” increase

While the rest of the UK is suffering cut backs in government spending, there is one person who is not affected. In fact, she has just received a pay rise of 5 million pounds.
The queen receives a grant from the government every April. The official reason for the grant is to maintain palaces, pay staff and fund activities of the royal family.

The justification issued for this was an increase in in profits from the crown estate, which owns property on behalf of the queen.

The grant has been increased to £36.1 million from a previous £31 million.

The rise follows changes made by the Coalition as to how the taxpayer funds the monarchy.

George Osborne, the Chancellor, introduced the Sovereign Grant that is equal to 15 per cent of the Crown Estate’s annual profits.

The Public Accounts Committee, a government watchdog, is expected to investigate whether the Royal family provides value for money to the taxpayer. The inquiry, which will look at every aspect of the Queen’s expenditure including transport costs, is likely to cause concern in Buckingham Palace because of the committee’s reputation for tough questioning of civil servants if it believes they have misused public funds.

The committee is chaired by Margaret Hodge, the former Labour minister.
