Egypt army destroys more Gaza tunnels

Egypt’s army has razed 95 percent of tunnels used to send basic needs into the Gaza Strip, a report said.

The Egyptian army destroyed the tunnels in a military operation in Sinai in the past 48 hours, Egyptian newspaper al-Gomhuria reported on Thursday.

It was also reported that the forces are now attempting to destroy the tunnels which entryways are located inside buildings bordering on the Strip.

An Egyptian military source claimed that the tunnels were used to smuggle weapons into the Gaza Strip have been destroyed but Palestinians living in Gaza have ruled out the accusation, saying that they use the tunnels only to save impoverished people from starvation.

UN Middle East Peace Envoy Robert Serry warned the UN Security Council about concerning life condition in the Gaza Strip which is under a strict blockade imposed by Israel.

The Israeli-imposed siege has severely limited flow of basic humanitarian needs to the coastal strip.

Out of the 1.7 million Palestinians living in Gaza 54 percent are food-insecure including 428,000 children.

Israel’s illegal blockade has also led to a massive shortage of building materials to repair the homes, hospitals, schools and water sanitation infrastructure that have been destroyed or damaged by the regime in the last 5 years.

Most of Gaza’s water supplies are polluted and unsafe to drink. There are power cuts every day as well.

The International Red Cross and the United Nations have found the Israeli regime’s siege of Gaza to be illegal under international law.
