Elite Syrian Army division crosses Euphrates to join the race to Al-Umar Oil Fields

Another elite force of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has arrived in the Deir Ezzor Governorate this week in order to aid in the ongoing offensive against the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) terror organization.

Units from the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division made their way from central Syria to the province of Deir Ezzor, a military report stated.

Upon their arrival in Deir Ezzor, the 4th Division was ordered to cross the Euphrates River and aid their comrades currently fighting on the eastern bank of this large waterway in eastern Syria.

While the 4th Division already had some units deployed in Deir Ezzor, the army’s high command decided to increase the total number of personnel in an effort to boost their presence north of the strategic Al-‘Umar Oil Fields.
