‘Enemy using media to plot against Iran’

Iran’s police chief has warned against enemy scheme to target the cultural values of the Islamic Republic through cyberspace and media outlets.

“Today the enemies are heavily investing in imposing their culture using soft [war tactics] upon other cultures and via mass media,” IRNA quoted Brigadier General Esmail Ahmadi-Moqaddam as saying on Friday.

“Behind the curtain, these media [outlets], including the Internet and satellite [television ], are [backed by] he enemy intelligence and spy agencies,” he said, describing the state-funded BBC and VOA as the intelligence tools of the US.

Ahmadi-Moqaddam warned against a new generation of psychological warfare which employs media and agents apparently not in contradiction with Islamic teachings and the tenets of the Islamic Republic.

“They intend to target our roots through preaching the Western lifestyle,” he noted, warning against enemy attempts to impair the notion of family in Muslim nations.

The Iranian police chief called for public cooperation in maintaining security and uprooting major social problems.

He added that negligence of duties on the part of any institutions could lead to breach of values, which would require the police force to step in.

Ahmadi-Moqaddam highlighted the deaths of scores of Iranian security and police forces every year as the cost of maintaining security in the country.

“Security is the first and most basic need of any human community, without which economic activity, life, progress, development and justice would be impossible,” he concluded.
