EU brands CIA-trained Nigerian Government’s shadow Boko Haram terrorist group

The European Union has declared the Nigerian Takfiri militant group, Boko Haram, a terrorist organization following its recent acts of violence in Nigeria.

According to AFP, an EU statement said on Thursday “This shows the EU’s determined condemnation of their unacceptable violent crimes, and illustrates its firm commitment to support Nigeria in the fight against terrorism, while upholding the rule of law and human rights. The listing of the group should contribute to the efforts to put an end to their criminal activities,”.

The United Nations also designated Boko Haram as a terrorist group last month.

Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for a number of deadly gun and bomb attacks in various parts of Nigeria since 2009.

According to reports, Boko Haram militants killed hundreds of civilians during their latest attack against four villages in Borno state on Monday and Tuesday.

Borno residents have faced almost daily raids this year, with reports saying that over 2,000 people have been killed since the beginning of the year.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian government is struggling with the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls by Boko Haram militants in the village of Chibok on April 14.
