EU diplomats say the European Union is planning to impose sanctions on nine Iranians over allegations of violations of human rights.

The new sanctions, to be announced next week, come after the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran Ahmed released his fourth report in late February accusing Iran of ‘violations of human rights.’
According to Press TV, the Iranian government dismissed the recent UN report, calling it unsubstantiated, biased, and a repetition of the Western allegations against Tehran.
On March 2, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that Ahmed Shaheed collates the information he uses to write reports accusing Iran of human rights violations from anti-Iranian media outlets and terrorist groups.
He emphasized that the Islamic Republic is eternally committed to respecting human dignity and the basic rights of the people, in line with its Constitution and religious teachings.
The Iranian Judiciary’s Human Rights Committee (HRC) also dismissed the report on March 5, saying it aims at intensifying pressure on the Islamic Republic.
The EU has also imposed economic sanctions on Iran based on the unfounded allegation that Iran is seeking to produce a nuclear bomb, a claim Tehran has vehemently rejected.
