Event on International al-Quds Day held at Umayyad Mosque in Syria

20130802-183820_h495385Resistance is the sole way to liberate Palestine and al-Quds, participants at an event marking the International al-Quds (Jerusalem) Day at the Grand Umayyad Mosque in Damascus stressed.

In a final statement following the event, the participants emphasized the Syrian people’s support to the path of resistance that is “stronger than ever.”

They also hailed the steadfastness of the Syrian people and their stances in facing the ferocious campaigns seeking to undermine Syria.

”We highly appreciate the role of the Syrian leadership, government and people for embracing and buttressing resistance and its symbols,” the participants said, condemning the Israeli repeated raids on Syria as a violation of international laws and principles.

The statement expressed commitment to the national principles in liberating Palestine and the occupied Arab territories and the refugees’ right to return to the homes from which they were uprooted in 1948, slamming the attempts of some to resume negotiations with the Zionist enemy and readiness to compromise lands and rights.

They also strongly denounced all forms of sowing sedition, especially violence that seeks to spread sectarian terrorism, underscoring the importance of the culture of tolerance and respecting pluralism and difference.

The participants also rapped the EU decision to blacklist the resistance party Hezbollah as a terrorist organization as it is ”an unfair and unconfirmed allegation,” also thanking the role of Iran in upholding the causes of the nation. The statement concluded by affirming that resistance is ”the sole way to liberate Palestine and al-Quds.”

In a speech delivered during the event on behalf of the Palestinian factions, Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command, Ahmad Jibreel said that “the unity of the Palestinian people and their resistance, together with the Arab and Islamic support are the trump card that is to retrieve the Palestinian rights.”

”We wished the event was organized in al-Yarmouk camp, but the armed terrorist groups tampered with our camps in Daraa, al-Yarmouk, Khan al-Shih and Handarat in the context of an international conspiracy to annul the right to return.”

Jibreel reiterated that resistance will lead to the liberation of Palestine ”as al-Quds is our honor and the honor of the nation,” calling for reinforcing the ”bridge of return from Tehran to Damascus, Lebanon and Palestine.”

Jibreel warned of Israeli attempts to expel the Palestinian people from al-Naqab.

Dr. Saber Falhout, member of the Syrian Popular Committee for Supporting the Palestinian People said the conspiracy against Syria won’t dissuade it from its support to resistance.

The event at the Grand Umayyad Mosque in Damascus was organized by the Central Leadership of the Palestinian Forces Alliance and the preparatory committee.

International al-Quds Day is an annual event that began in Iran in 1979 that is commemorated on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposing Zionism as well as Israel’s control of Jerusalem.

The event at the Umayyad Mosque is held under the title “From Damascus to Jerusalem…One Battle for Liberation and Return and Foiling of the U.S. Project”.
