Fajr International Visual Arts Festival kicks off in Tehran

n00081547-bThe fifth edition of Fajr International Visual Arts Festival has kicked off during a ceremony in the Iranian capital, Tehran’s Museum of Contemporary Art.

Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini along with several cultural officials and a number of the country’s eminent artists attended the opening ceremony held on February 2, 2013.

The festival presented a special program during which the book of fourth edition of the festival was unveiled.

Moreover, the audience participated in the opening ceremony of the event’s Non-competitive section focused on the theme of ‘Islam Prophet’.

A number of artists from 45 countries including cartoonists, photographers and poster designers submitted their works to this year’s Fajr International Festival of Visual Arts.

Canada, Spain, Belgium, Austria, Brazil, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, France, Jordan and Serbia are among the countries named in the submitted list.

The participated artworks are to vie in nine categories including painting, graphic design, pottery, illustration, miniature, and caricature.

The 2013 edition of the festival is also to present documentary and portrait films on visual arts.

Last year’s festival hosted 200 artists from thirty-eight countries including Brazil, China, Indonesia and Turkey.

The fifth edition of Fajr International Visual Arts Festival is scheduled to run until February 28 in Tehran and several other Iranian cities.
