Fajr Intl. Theater Festival 2014 kicks off in Tehran

The 32nd edition of Iran’s Fajr International Theater Festival has started its programs during a ceremony held in the country’s capital city of Tehran.

Some 11 plays of the Scene section have been scheduled to go on the stages of the festival’s different halls at the opening day, on January 18. Today the event is also to host six street performances.

Akbar Zanjanpour’s Uncle Vanya, Behzad Farahani’s Blood and Rose and Hamid Reza Naaimi’s Sophocles are among the lineup of the opening day.

The international section of the festival has selected 14 plays from among numerous entries submitted by international troupes from different countries.

The selected works will be staged by the ensembles from Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Hungary, Romania, Poland and Bulgaria.

The section is also to host the performances by the troupes from Iraq, India, Tunisia and South Korea along with several Iranian ensembles, said the festival’s secretary Esmail Alizadeh.

The 2014 festival’s participated works have been required to focus on the promotion of intercultural ‘Tolerance and Respect’.

Iran holds the international Fajr film, theater, music and visual arts festivals every year to mark the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The 32nd Iran’s Fajr International Theater Festival will run until February 1, 2014.
