Far-right terror attack in Germany leaves Muslim community rattled

The killer and his mother have been found dead. According to newspaper Bild, he left behind a letter of confession and a video claiming responsibility in which he expressed extreme right-wing views. The investigation is ongoing, but the prelude to this attack is cause for great concern.

This comes just days after 12 far-right extremists were arrested on suspicion of plotting six attacks on mosques across the country.

In the wake of this, Muslim groups demanded the German government offer their community more protection. They have felt the growing threat from the far-right for several years now.

Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel has sent her condolences to the families of the victims saying she mourns with them.

And Germany’s main far-right party is accused stoking the flames of hatred. As recently as Wednesday, the AfD was condemned for distributing a coloring book which depicting veiled women and gangsters waving Turkish flags and firing pistols.
