Fate of Lebanese pilgrims kidnapped in Syria unknown

The fate of the Lebanese pilgrims kidnapped in Syria as they were returning from a pilgrimage in Iran is still unknown, Press TV reports.

Despite conflicting reports about their release in the media, the families of the kidnapped pilgrims are hopeful.

The families waited at the Beirut International Airport after the Lebanese politicians announced they would be released.

“We were told that we would hear good news. Every hour, they tell us that the issue has been resolved and they would be released,” wife of one of the abductees Mona Tormos said.

Lebanese lawmaker Kassem Hashem said that the Lebanese government and other factions have been trying to secure the release of the pilgrims.

“The most important issue that we can confirm is that the men are alive and in good health,” he told Press TV.

“All sides are exhorting all efforts and making their contacts to help the crisis resolved,” Hashem added.
