A second suspect has been arrested in connection with Sunday’s unprovoked shootings at Los Angeles police officers, authorities say.

The alleged shooter, James Brooks, 19, was arrested Wednesday in Las Vegas, the FBI said Thursday.

Two Los Angeles police officers were shot at on Sunday night while driving in their patrol car in the southern part of the city.

The officers returned fire but no one was injured, authorities said.

Shortly after the attack, the first suspect was arrested and two weapons, including a rifle, were recovered, according to LAPD Capt. Lillian Carranza.

A citywide tactical alert was issued for the second suspect, with hundreds of law enforcement officials on the manhunt.

“It was an ambush,” said Deputy Chief Bob Green. “They were fired upon without any prior contact with the suspects.”

On the same day when LA shootings happened, another gunman in Florida fired shots at police deputies parked at a church.

The suspect fired shots at two Pasco County Sheriff Deputies in Dade City and got away without being arrested.

Threats against police have increased in the US since two New York police officers were shot and killed on December 20 amid angry protests against police brutality and racial profiling.

Ismaaiyl Brinsley, a 28-year-old black man, shot the NYPD officers and then killed himself.
