Fighting in northern Syria claims nine lives

At least nine people have been killed in clashes in northwestern Syria amid attacks by Takfiri terrorists in the war-ravaged country.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Thursday that four civilians were killed and over 70 injured in a massive attack by the militants on several districts of the city of Aleppo.

Clashes between government forces and Takfiri terrorists in western Aleppo also left five militants dead.

The UK-based group, meanwhile, added that the militants fired several hundred rockets and projectiles into at least seven neighborhoods controlled by the government, while the army returned fire and carried out airstrikes.

Aleppo, which was once the economic powerhouse of Syria, is now divided between government forces that largely control the west of the city and the militants that have a strong presence in the east.

Syria has been experiencing a foreign-sponsored crisis since March 2011. The violence fueled by Takfiri terrorist groups has so far left over 230,000 people dead, according to latest reports.

Anti-Syria resolution

The latest acts of violence in Syria comes as the Syrian government on Thursday slammed as selective and biased a resolution passed by the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) against the country .

Reacting to the resolution, Syrian Ambassador Hussam Eddin Aala denounced critics of Damascus as hypocrites who are backing the “terrorists” in Syria.

Russia’s representative Anatoly Viktorov, the director general for humanitarian affairs and human rights at the Foreign Ministry, whose country voted against the resolution, also described it as “yet another anti-Syrian initiative in the Council.”

He said that Takfiri ISIL and al-Nusra Front militants are the biggest problems in Syria, adding that the resolution should reflect this issue.
