President Rouhani made the remarks in a phone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Wednesday.
“Although some countries pretend to be combating terrorism, unfortunately they are strengthening it through military aid to Daesh and buying oil from it,” he said.

The Islamic Republic of Iran considers stability and security of Iraq as its own stability and security and will make efforts to enhance it, the Iranian chief executive said, adding, “Tehran will support the Iraqi government and nation in their fight against terrorism and will not spare any help” in this regard.

The Iraqi premier, for his part, provided Rouhani with a report on the latest political and security developments in his country.

He described Daesh as a threat to the region and the world, saying that promotion of cooperation against Daesh benefits both the region and the world.

The Iraqi government and people are determined to fight Daesh firmly and to root out terrorism in their homeland, Abadi added, noting that Baghdad is keen to boost ties with Tehran in political, security, economic and cultural fields.

Gruesome violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since Daesh launched an offensive in June 2014, and took control of swathes of the Iraqi territory.

The Takfiri terror group has suffered major blows from the Iraqi forces and fighters from Popular Mobilization units over the past months and is increasingly losing areas under its control.
