Florida shooting leaves one dead

A man was fatally shot by a Broward Sheriff’s deputy on Sunday night, after he had threatened a woman with a machete, US officials said.

According to the Sheriff’s Office in Broward, Florida, a woman approached the deputy at about 8 p.m. to complain that a man had threatened her with a machete.

She pointed out the man and his white Chevy Silverado pickup truck which was at a gas station and a convenience store.

The deputy pursued the man after the truck left the parking lot and attempted a traffic stop but soon after shots had been fired, the Sheriff’s Office stated.

The truck stopped after it hit a palm tree and, according to detectives, a machete was seen inside the vehicle.

It was not clear what actually happened between the deputy and the man, but detectives reported that deputy fired multiple shots after he received a threat from the man, according to Sun Sentinel.

“The subject at some point was outside the vehicle. The subject went back inside the vehicle. Our deputy fired multiple shots at the subject,” Sheriff Scott Israel said at the scene.

According to a neighbor, who heard the gunshot, the driver was outside the truck and began to run when the deputy shot him. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
