Foreign militants killed in Western ‪Syria‬

Syrian Army troops have killed twelve terrorists, including foreign militants from Jordan, Kuwait and Morocco, in the country’s western coastal province of Latakia.

The militants were killed in clashes in Latakia’s northern suburbs in the villages of Obin, al-Hanboushiyeh and Prophet Isaiah Mount, the state-run SANA news agency reported on Tuesday.

According to a Syrian Army source, a Kuwaiti sniper, a Jordanian terrorist and 9 Moroccan terrorists were among the dead.

Moreover, large amounts of ammunition and weapons were destroyed in the course of the operations, the unnamed source said.

Meanwhile, the chief of staff of the so-called Free Syrian Army General Salim Idris visited Latakia.

Last week, the militants attacked villages in the countryside of Latakia, displacing over 3,000 families living in the area.

Over the past few days, Syrian forces have killed scores of Takfiri militants — mostly foreign mercenaries — in Latakia.

Earlier this week, Syrian Army troops killed two leaders of the foreign-backed militants, Abu Zaid al-Almani and Abu Malik al-Shahri, in the coastal province.

Syria has been gripped by deadly turmoil since 2011.

According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions of others displaced in the violence.

Reports indicate that Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey — are supporting the militants operating inside the country.

President Bashar al-Assad said on August 5 that Syria would strike terror “with an iron fist.”
