“Freedom for Khawaja” Rallies in Lebanon

Bahraini Forum for Human Rights has organized a rally Friday outside the United Nations headquarters in the Lebanese capital of Beirut in support of Bahraini political prisoners.

Scores of supporters have participated in the incident at Riad Solh Square to call on the Al-Khalifa regime to release all political prisoners, and particularly Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, who has been on a hunger strike for more than two months, and Bahraini opposition leader Shiekh Hasam Moushaima.

Expressing solidarity with jailed Bahraini human rights activists, the demonstrators urged the UN to act responsibly about the events unfolding in Bahrain.

They also criticized Arab media outlets for practicing misinformation, turning a blind eye to Al-Khalifa brutal crackdown on peaceful protests and trying to portray the uprising against the ruling Al Khalifa monarchy in a sectarian way, while it is purely national awakening.

Brutal Al-Khalifa security forces killed scores of Bahraini citizens since mid-February 2011, injured hundreds of them in the crackdown, while dozens of activists have been arrested for demanding the rights of Bahraini people.
