Fueling of Bushehr N-plant complete

Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi says the fueling of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in south of the country is complete.

“All fuel assemblies have been loaded into the core of the reactor,” Salehi was quoted by Fars news agency as saying on Saturday.

“All we have to do now is to wait for the water inside the reactor’s core to warm gradually, and carry out another series of tests,” he further explained.

“We hope the Bushehr power plant will hook up with the national grid in one or two months,” Salehi went on to say.

Iran’s nuclear chief also touched upon Tehran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and a meeting of the agency’s Board of Governors due to open on Monday.

“We hope our colleagues at the agency will vigorously defend Iran’s stances,” he added.

“Our cooperation is within the framework of the NPT,” said Salehi, adding Tehran has acted in line with the Safeguards Agreement.

The Iranian official further pointed out that certain misunderstandings surrounding Iran-IAEA cooperation are being removed.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the AEOI chief underlined that Iran is to import radio medicines from Russia in the coming weeks.

According to Salehi, Iran has managed to produce 35kg of 20% enriched fuel so far.

“We produce almost 3kg of 20% enriched fuel each month,” he added.

Iran’s nuclear chief also said the first Iranian-made fuel assembly is slated to be loaded into the core of the Tehran nuclear research reactor by September 2011.
