Full report from southwest Syria battle – map

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has been on a roll as of late, seizing several important areas from the rebel forces in southwest Syria.

Over the last 48 hours, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies from the National Defense Forces (NDF) have managed to retake a number of towns and villages, while also seizing the most important Jordanian border-crossing.

Southern Daraa

Starting with the town of Saida on Thursday, the Syrian Army was able to overpower the rebel forces at this strategic town and force them to retreat west towards Al-Naimah, which is located directly east of the provincial capital.

Following the capture of Saida, the Syrian Army and their allies made a big push to cpature the town of Al-Naimah from the Free Syrian Army’s (FSA) Southern Front Brigades.

This push would prove successful, as the elite Tiger Forces swept through Al-Naimah and later declared the town fully under the control of the Syrian government.

Meanwhile, south of Saida, the Syrian Army made their most important advance of the week near the Jordanian border.

Led by the Tiger Forces, the Syrian Army captured several border points on Thursday, putting them within striking distance of the strategic Nassib Crossing.

This big advance would pave the way for the eventual rebel surrender of this Jordanian Crossing, marking the first time in three years that the Syrian Army has been in control of this site.

Northeast of the Nassib Crossing, the Russian Reconciliation Center and the rebel forces agreed to peace terms in the historical city of Busra Al-Sham on Thursday.

The rebel forces agreed to handover their heavy and medium weapons, while also allowing for the Russian military police to enter the city and its neighboring towns.

Northern Daraa

At one of the most volatile fronts in southwest Syria, the Syrian Army has been engaged in a fierce battle with the rebel forces at the town of Tafas in northern Daraa.

While the Syrian Army did capture the strategic hilltop of Tal Saada, they have still struggled to capture Tafas and its surroundings after several days of fighting.

Daraa City

The battle for the provincial capital of Daraa is quickly approaching, following the Syrian Army’s capture of Al-Naimah this week.

The Syrian Army is now positioned at two axis to strike the rebel forces in the southern district of Daraa Al-Balad.

Since the start of their offensive operations in southwest Syria, the Syrian Army has hammered the provincial capital of Daraa nearly every day.

The Syrian Army will likely intensify their attack in the coming days, as they move closer to launching their large-scale operation inside the provincial capital.
