Future power of Islamic world lies in further unity

A senior advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has underlined unity among Muslim countries as the key factor in boosting the power of the Islamic world.

“We hope that… more grounds will be provided for the unity of the Islamic Ummah as the power of the Islamic world in the future depends on unity of the Islamic Ummah,” Ali-Akbar Velayati said Wednesday after a meeting with Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan Nayyar Hussain Bukhari.

Velayati aslo said that he discussed different aspects of relations between Tehran and Islamabad in his meetings with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Bukhari.

He said that among the topics of the meetings with the two Pakistani officials was economic cooperation in the fields of electricity, gas, agriculture, industries and culture.

Velayati said that Zardari stressed the expansion of bilateral ties between Iran and Pakistan and Bukhari also expressed satisfaction with the current trend of cooperation between the two countries.

The Iranian official said that the Islamic Republic has always supported Pakistan and stressed that Iran will continue supporting Islamabad, which he described as a strategic policy of the country.

Heading a high-ranking political delegation, Velayati arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday for a three-day visit and was welcomed by Pakistani Foreign Ministry officials as well as Iran’s Ambassador to Islamabad Alireza Haqiqian.

He said upon his arrival that the aim of his visit to Pakistan was to meet and hold talks with Pakistani officials as well as Sunni and Shia clerics and scholars.

“Our meetings are aimed at further reinforcing solidarity among the two countries’ scholars and clerics, who are the symbols of the common culture of the two states,” Velayati said.
