Gaza hospitals face enormous crisis: Expert

Hospitals in the Gaza Strip are facing a crisis due to the overflow of patients and a constant attack from the Israeli army, Press TV reports.

Gaza’s hospitals have reported that they are running short on critical supplies needed to attend to the rising number of patients and casualties worsened by the escalating Israeli attacks.

“Al-Aqsa hospital, Beit Hanoun hospital, al-Dura hospital, al-Wafa hospital, even this hospital, al-Shifa, has been bombed the day before yesterday. This hospital is being run by just the local generators. Imagine 740 beds being run by local generators,” Subhi Skaik, the manager of Shifa hospital, told the Press TV correspondent.

Skaik added that hospital patients need urgent medical attention and cannot receive help from hospitals outside the country, let alone Gaza itself.

“Gaza is a completely closed area. We cannot refer patients even outside the country. Many of the local hospitals have been destroyed. We cannot refer patients for at least recovery,” he said.

Ignoring international pressure for an end to the assaults, Israel has reportedly launched attacks on civilian institutions, including schools and hospitals sheltering Palestinian refugees, over the past few days.

Referring to Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks, the manager of Shifa hospital also said, “The story is about these numbers who have been killed that are children in their houses… Imagine real massacres for the families in Gaza… Now they are destroying those families totally. Imagine the whole family coming to you in this Shifa hospital. The whole family has been demolished.”

Since July 8, Israel has been pounding the Gaza Strip. The air, sea and land strikes by Israel have so far killed at least 1,300 people and injured thousands of others in the coastal sliver.

The Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, has been launching retaliatory attacks against Israel.
