GECF Secretary: Tehran Gas Summit Significant, to Review Global Gas Model

Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Mohammad-Hossein Adeli said the upcoming summit meeting of the gas producing countries to be held in Tehran on November 23 is a “significant” event in that it is going to consider “strategic” documents on global market monitoring.

“The important document which is going to be presented to the members is the Global Gas Model. It will be GECF’s flag,” Adeli, who is here to take part in the Iranian Petroleum and Energy Club 2015 Congress and Exhibition on October 19-12, told Shana.

“It is a technically advanced model which is designed to forecast market behavior based on the facts from 133 countries, their fields and wells,” he added.

“The model is unique in than its assumptions are closer to reality because the data are coming from the direct contact with 18 major gas producing countries,” the GECF secretary general said.

“Since last year we have been able to attract 73 member countries. So today GECF is not only having relationship with 18 member countries of GECF, but in terms of data exchange we are also activating the data exchange service with 73 countries,” he said in a meeting with Iran’s Petroleum Minister Bijan Zangeneh on Sunday.

Adeli who was briefing the minister on the procedural and protocol preparations of the Tehran summit, GECF’s market monitoring team working on a daily, monthly, six-month basis, and annual basis has enabled it to present analytical and technical views about the markets, demand, supply, and contracts.

The 3rd Gas Summit of heads of state and government of the GECF member countries will be held on November 23, 2015 in Tehran to consult and exchange views on the most important issues concerning them in the framework of the GECF.

Previous GECF Gas summits were held in Qatar in 2011 and in Moscow in 2013 .This 3rd Gas Summit will be attended by heads of state and government of GECF member countries as well as guest international organizations.

The GECF is the gathering of the world’s leading gas producers that provides a framework for exchange of experience, views, information and data, as well as coordination in gas related developments among member countries.

GECF is currently comprised of 18 countries: Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirate, and Venezuela.

Kazakhstan, Iraq, the Netherlands, Norway, Oman and Peru are observer members in the Forum.
