Iran’s 4th domestic satellite put into orbit

On the eve of the National Day of Space Technology, Iran’s 4th domestically manufactured satellite named ‘Fajr’ was launched into space and successfully put into orbit.

During the Decade of Fajr (Feb. 1-11) and on the eve of Iran’s National Day of Space Technology (Feb. 3), experts at the Aerospace Industries Organization of Iran’s Defense Ministry as the first satellite launcher in the Islamic world as well as Iran Electronics Industries (IEI) as the first satellite manufacturer in the country successfully put the fourth domestically designed and manufactured satellite called ‘Fajr’ into orbit.

Minister of Defense Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan maintained the design and construction of the national satellite Fajr owed a lot to the honest and tremendous efforts of space scientists and researchers at IEI as well as a number of knowledge-based companies and research centers in the country, deeming it another sign of the Islamic Republic’s continuous progress in the field of advanced technology.

“The country’s success in the field of space technology is one of the most significant achievements of the Islamic Revolution,” said Brig. General Dehghan.

Iran launched its first locally-built satellite, Omid (Hope), in 2009. The country also sent its first bio-capsule containing living creatures into the space in February 2010, using Kavoshgar-3 (Explorer-3) carrier.

The country is one of the 24 founding members of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, which was set up in 1959.
