A senior Iranian lawmaker says the upcoming nuclear talks between Iran and the six world powers will be a chance to test US claims.

“The nuclear talks are a good place to verify claims made by the US,” Alaeddin Boroujerdi, chairman of Iran Majlis Foreign Policy and National Security Committee, said Wednesday.

Boroujerdi added that the Islamic Republic will not buckle under any pressure and sanctions to give up its nuclear right.

He said Iran would go ahead with nuclear talks based on its national interests, adding that no direct talks are planned between Iran and the US.

Boroujerdi predicted positive results from the upcoming talks if the six world powers do not “act politically” under pressure from the US and Israel.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – the US, Britain, France, China and Russia – plus Germany are to begin talks over Tehran’s nuclear energy program on November 7 in Geneva.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will lead the Iranian negotiating team while the delegation of the six world powers will be headed by EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton.

Tehran and the six world powers wrapped up two days of nuclear talks in Geneva on October 16.

A diplomatic source in Tehran has said that Iran has called for six major world powers to recognize its right to enrich uranium in order for the nuclear negotiations to move forward.
