Georgia says it ready for being sister country of Iran
Iran’s Ambassador to Georgia has met with the chairman of Batumi City Council, Irakli Chavleishvili.
Majid Saber and the chairman reviewed that progresses made in Iran-Georgia relations in recent years. “Our relations have significantly increased in economy, but with historical ties and cultural shared characteristics, our relations should be more developed,” said Saber. “Thus, we would introduce Islamic Republic of Iran’s scientific and technical capabilities for bringing progress for Batumi and Adjara Autonomous Republic,” he added.

The Chairman of Batumi City Council, who has a PhD in History, said that he knew Iran well, saying that “your country has a long history and is a powerful country.”

“Georgian culture has been influenced by Iranian culture, and Georgians has greatly served Iran. These services provide the grounds for a will to improve bilateral ties,” said Chavleishvili.

He also said that the city was ready for adopt a ‘sister city’ with Iran’s major cities. Ahmad-Reza Arzjani ConsulateGeneral of the Islamic Republic of Iranin Batumi also was attending the meeting. Batumi (center of Adjara Autonomous Republic) hosted 50,000 Iranian tourists last year. In October 2010, Iran Consulate-General started its operation in Batumi.
