Israel says Gaza civilians killed lawfully

Israel says it will not open a criminal investigation into the killing of 12 Palestinian civilians in an airstrike last year, claiming that the civilians were killed lawfully.

The November 18 attack during Israel’s war on the besieged Gaza Strip on the three-story home of the al-Dallu family killed 10 members of the family, along with two neighbors.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights said on Sunday that Tel Aviv informed it that Israeli forces did not violate the laws of war or commit any criminal acts in the attack.

The group stated that the Israeli verdict proved its inquiry was a “smokescreen” to provide “systematic cover for widespread violations of international law.”

In November 2012, the eight-day Israeli offensive in Gaza killed about 170 Palestinians, including many women and children, and injured over 1,400 others.

A ceasefire agreement, which took effect on November 21, ended the Israeli onslaught on the Gaza Strip, which has been blockaded since June 2007, a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.

The apartheid regime of Israel denies about 1.7 million people in Gaza their basic rights, such as freedom of movement, jobs that pay proper wages, and adequate healthcare and education.
