Spokesman: US Seeking Military Conflicts, Civil War in Syria

Starting civil war in Syria is the main US policy on the Muslim country Syria, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said, but at the same time added that Washington has so far failed to obtain success in this policy.

Speaking to a group of Chinese reporters and journalists and university lecturers on Wednesday, Mehman-Parast said that strategic policy of the US and its allies on Syria is sparking military conflicts with help of the Zionist regime of Israel.

“They want to push the Syrian people into armed conflicts but that will not come true, for that reason they are using armed elements of the other countries to spark clashes in Syria,” he said, and noted, “But, the Syrian people and government defend their territorial integrity and national interests.”

Mehman-Parast said the moves are aimed at undermining the resistance front against Israel, and noted, “They took advantage of the demands raised by part of the Syrian nation and tried to initiate a civil war by equipping non-Syrian nationals with arms.”

Mehman-Parast, who is also the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s Public Diplomacy and Media Center, cautioned those states which are in pursuit of a civil war in Syria that such insecurities are likely to spread into their own countries.

Iranian officials have on many occasions asked regional states to keep distant from the US-Zionist plots against Syria.

On Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said the Zionist regime of Israel is behind the current plots against Syria, and called on the regional states to act wisely in their policies towards developments in Syria.

It is surprising that when the Zionist regime seeks sabotage and lawlessness in Syria, certain governments in the region put seal of approval on such conspiracy, Salehi stated, speaking at a joint press conference with visiting Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem here in Tehran.

The Iranian minister added that it is quite obvious that Zionists and its allies mastermind conspiracies against the Syrian government.

Salehi further advised countries in the region to adopt rationality in dealing with the issue.

The remarks by the Iranian foreign minister came after media reports said Saudi Arabia and Qatar in collaboration with the US and Britain have set up a secret command center in Turkey to supply the terrorists in Syria with military and communications aid to seize control of Aleppo city from the Syrian government.
