At least four people have been killed in a fresh US assassination drone strike in southeastern Yemeni province of Hadramawt.

According to a Yemeni military source, speaking on condition of anonymity, the incident took place between the village of Qatan and the town of Shibam in Hadramawt Province on Tuesday.

Several people also sustained injuries in the attack, the Yemeni official said.

This attack was Washington’s fourth since US President Barack Obama pledged not to intensify such raids in the Arabian Peninsula country.

On February 2, at least four people were killed in al-Bayda Province when an unmanned aircraft operated by the US targeted a vehicle transporting people.

A similar air raid on January 31 killed four people in the southern province of Shabwa, while three lost their lives in a January 26 strike in the same province.

Obama said on January 25 that there would be no let-up in his country’s so-called anti-terrorism campaign in Yemen amid growing political tensions in the Arab state.

He added that the US would not deploy troops to Yemen but would keep on going after what he called “high-value targets inside Yemen.”

The US administration claims that the drones target al-Qaeda militants, but local sources say civilians have been the main victims of the airstrikes.

Washington does not comment publicly on individual cases of the aerial bombing campaign.

The US drone strikes in Yemen have led to the death of many civilians over the past few years in a blatant violation of international law, according to Human Rights Watch.

The New America Foundation has reported that Washington has carried out over 110 strikes in Yemen since 2009, mostly using drones.
