Great Satan US main obstacle in fighting terrorists in Syria

Russia has criticized what it calls American double standards with regard to terrorists, saying Washington’s policy is the main obstacle in the fight against terrorism.

The US government has divided foreign-backed militants in Syria into bad and not so bad, said a top Russian Foreign Ministry official.

These double standards are also affecting terrorist armed units operating in the North Caucasus, the official added.
The remarks come after US Secretary of State John Kerry said on Tuesday that US officials could meet with representatives of the Islamic Front, an alliance of pro-al-Qaeda groups fighting the Syrian government.

“The United States has not met yet to date with the Islamic Front. There has not been a discussion. It’s possible that it could take place,” Kerry said in a press conference while visiting the Philippines.

The Saudi-backed group was formed earlier in November in the Middle Eastern country after six major extremist Salafist groups fighting against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government joined forces.

Last week, militants from the so-called Islamic Front reportedly took over key warehouses in the border town of Atmeh, that were controlled by the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA). The warehouses contained a range of lethal and nonlethal weapons.

They also took control of the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey.

The seizure of the warehouses prompted the United States and Britain to suspend non-lethal aid to militants in northern Syria.

Syria has been gripped by deadly conflict since March 2011 in which at least 100,000 people have been killed and millions displaced.
