The Center for International Law of the Presidential Office said on Friday Iran took back a part of its properties after US blocking them for 37 years.

In 1978, Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art purchased 14 works of two well-known American artists late Michael Graves and Robert A. M. Stern, an informed source of the Center said.

Following the Islamic Revolution, he added, and the takeover of the US embassy in Tehran, the US government refused from delivering the works to Iran until based on the 1981 Algiers Accords, the US government was committed to return all the Iranian proprietary, including the mentioned artistic works.

Pointing to America’s violation of the Accord regarding the return of art works to Iran, he noted that the country filed a complaint at the Hague-based International Court of Justice in 1982 against the US.

Finally, the unnamed source added, in 2013 the US government accepted the return of the artworks to Iran with first transferring them to Amsterdam to be confirmed by Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance experts as authentic, then they were taken to the Islamic Republic.

The value of the masterpieces has not been disclosed by the two countries.
