Gunmen kill Chinese man, injure two women in SW Nigeria

Gunmen have killed at least one Chinese businessman in the southwestern Nigerian city of Lagos, days after another attack in the African country’s northeast left two workers from the Asian country dead.

Unidentified gunmen attacked the Chinese man’s car on Wednesday at about 9:30 p.m. local time (2030 GMT) near the city’s district of Ogudu, Xinhua reported.

The gunmen also injured two Chinese women who were in the vehicle during the attack.

“One of the ladies was shot in the head and the other on her leg,” said a doctor on condition of anonymity at a nearby hospital, where the women were receiving treatment.

The attack came after assailants killed at least two Chinese construction workers in the state of Borno on November 8.

Although no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, authorities usually put the blame on Boko Haram for such attacks.

The group has claimed responsibility for a number of deadly gun and bomb attacks in various parts of Nigeria since 2009.

Human rights groups report that violent actions by Boko Haram since mid-2009 have claimed about 1,500 lives, including over 760 this year alone.
