Hamas continues to retaliate Israeli airstrikes on Gaza

370658_Hamas-rocketsThe Palestinian resistance movement of Hamas in the besieged Gaza Strip has fired more than 200 rockets targeting Israeli towns and cities in retaliation for Tel Aviv’s deadly attacks on the enclave.

According to reports on Thursday, more than 234 rockets were fired from Gaza.

Israeli media reports say that only some 60 of those rockets were intercepted by its US-funded Iron Dome missile system.

Sirens went off in Israel’s Eshkol, Merhavim, and Netivot. A number of the rockets reportedly hit open areas. Be’er Sheva, Mitzpe, and Sha’ar HaNegev have also been targeted.

This is while Tel Aviv said that it had hit over 300 targets since last night alone.

“We aimed at 322 targets in Gaza overnight, taking to 750 the total number of Hamas targets hit by the army since the start (Tuesday),” military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner said on Thursday.

Palestinian sources earlier said that Israel had hit over 600 targets.

Tel Aviv had warned earlier that Hamas had dozens of long-range rockets capable of striking deeper into Israel than ever before.

Nearly 80 Palestinians have been killed and over 500 others wounded since Israel launched its so-called “Operation Protective Edge” against the besieged strip on July 8.

Tens of Palestinian homes have been completely destroyed, while over 1,500 others have been partially damaged.

President of the Palestinian National Unity Government Mahmoud Abbas has accused Israel of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip in order to protect its illegal settlement project.

Gaza has been under Israeli illegal siege since 2007. The blockade has caused a decline in the standards of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.
