Israeli ongoing escalation in al-Aqsa Mosque is a “declaration of war,” a senior official from Hamas Movement said Tuesday, as Israeli occupation forces violently broke into Muslims’ holy al-Aqsa Mosque for the third day in a row and aggressively assaulted the peaceful Muslim sit-inners and worshipers.

“The Israeli escalation on al-Aqsa Mosque is a declaration of war,” said Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri, calling on the international community to rein in Israel “before the situation explodes.”

“The Palestinian people will never let this criminal Israeli scheme pass,” Abu Zuhri said, referring to Israeli scheme to impose a spatio-temporal division on Muslims’ holy al-Aqsa Mosque.

Hamas’s statement came as tension flared up for the third day in a row in the holy site after Israel’s minister of agriculture Uri Ariel and 50 Israeli fanatics stormed the Mosque under heavy police escort.

During the raid, the Qibli Mosque sustained serious damage after Israeli soldiers wreaked havoc on it, burned down its carpets, and ruined its historical windows, while dozens of worshipers and sit-inners were detained over the three past days including women and minors.

A number of worshipers were also injured when the police fired tear gas canisters, percussion bombs and rubber bullets during the Israeli police forces attempts to get the worshipers out of the mosque area in order to allow settlers to enter for prayers to mark their Jewish New Year holiday.

In this regard, the leadership body for Hamas prisoners in Israeli jails strongly condemned the Israeli ongoing and systematic attacks on al-Aqsa Mosque.

Such crimes against our holy sites need an urgent and tangible response, the statement said Tuesday.

Israel works at imposing a status quo in the area as a prelude for imposing a spatio-temporal division in al-Aqsa Mosque, the statement read.

The leadership body called on the Arab and Islamic Nation to support the Jerusalemite steadfastness in face of Israeli Judaization plots.
