Hamas Leader Ezzet al-Resheq: Meshaal’s visit to Gaza historic

Political bureau member of Hamas Ezzet al-Resheq has described the visit by Khaled Meshaal, the political bureau chairman of Hamas, to Gaza as “historic”.

Resheq, who is accompanying Mishaal on the visit that started at noon Friday, said that the Mishaal, heading a Hamas delegation, would attend the movement’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

He told Quds Press that Hamas delegates, all members of the political bureau, were proud for being in the legendary Gaza Strip, and hoped that a similar visit would be possible soon for Jerusalem.

For its part, the national reconciliation committee welcomed Mishaal’s visit in a statement on Saturday, hoping that it would accelerate ending the national division and achieving reconciliation.

The statement appealed to Mahmoud Abbas, the Fatah leader and PA chief, to immediately call for a meeting with Hamas leadership to exploit the historic moment and forge national unity.
