Hamas Movement mourned on Wednesday the death of Fatah leader Ziyad Abu Ein and called for ending negotiations and security coordination with the Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) in response to the incident.

Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, told the PIC that his Movement mourns the death of Abu Ein, the head of the Anti-Wall and Settlement Commission, and calls for ending all forms of security coordination with the IOA.

He said that the crime proves anew the impossibility of coexistence with occupation, and that all efforts should focus on confronting occupation and preserving national unity.

Israeli occupation forces violently quelled a peaceful Palestinian march led by Abu Ein to plant olive trees in Tarmasaya village, north of Ramallah, on Wednesday morning. The soldiers beat Abu Ein and fired teargas canisters at him and the marchers. He fainted then later died in hospital.

For his part, Mahmoud Abbas, PA chairman and Fatah leader, described the IOF assault on Abu Ein that led to his martyrdom as “savage”.

Abbas said in a press release that the incident was an “unacceptable barbaric act”, adding that the PA will wait for results of the investigation into his martyrdom before adopting any decision.
