Officials of the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, have accused Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) of plotting to topple the movement and its military wing in the Gaza Strip.

The resistance movement reportedly said intelligence agencies of Egypt and the UAE have been seeking to overthrow Hamas government.

This comes as Tamarod (rebellion) Movement in the Gaza Strip gave Hamas until Friday to leave power and hold an election in the besieged enclave.

Tamarod members are scheduled to hold demonstrations against the resistance movement across Gaza on November 11.

Last month, Hamas official Yahya Mousa said members of Tamarod movement had been trained by Egypt’s intelligence and security services.

Hamas has governed the blockaded Gaza Strip since 2007, when it won a majority of seats in the Palestinian parliament through the parliamentary elections.

Gaza has been blockaded since June 2007, a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.

Israel denies about 1.7 million people in Gaza their basic rights, such as freedom of movement, jobs that pay proper wages, and adequate healthcare and education.
