Hamas wants US action against Israel

The Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, has urged the leaders of the US and Russia to take action against Israel over its attack on a Gaza-bound aid convoy.

Hamas political leader Khaled Meshaal said on Tuesday that US President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev as leaders of two major nations in the world should take initiative against the brutal Israeli assault.

The Israeli navy’s attack against the Freedom Flotilla aid convoy on Monday left at least 20 activists dead and 50 others injured, Palestinian sources say.

The raid took place as the humanitarian convoy was still in international waters in the Mediterranean Sea, 150km (90 miles) off the coast of Gaza.

“Israel’s true identity has been uncovered” after its brutal raid on international activists aboard the aid ships, Meshaal said.

He also called for the removal of the Israeli-imposed blockade of the Gaza Strip, which has been in place for three years.

Meanwhile, the Hamas political chief called on the Palestinian Authority to bring peace talks with Tel Aviv to a halt.

Meshaal also called reconciliation between Hamas and acting Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah faction, saying all Palestinian groups should be united against Israel.
