Hundreds attend funeral of Gazan teen killed by Israel

Hundreds of Palestinians have attended the funeral ceremony of a 13-year-old boy who was killed by Israeli gunfire in the southern Gaza Strip.

Humeid Yunis Abu Daqqah was killed on Thursday after being hit by bullets fired from an Israeli army helicopter near Khan Yunis.

Witnesses said Israeli helicopters opened fire as tanks carried out an incursion into Gaza.

On Monday, a Palestinian man suffering psychiatric problems was also killed by Israeli troops after he approached the Israeli-imposed security fence.

The 20-year-old man, named as Ahmed al-Nabaheen, was injured on Sunday evening, but the Israeli army refused to allow Palestinian ambulances to the scene to transport him and he succumbed to his injuries hours later.

The Israeli military frequently attacks the Gaza Strip, claiming that the actions are being conducted for defensive purposes. However, in violation of international law disproportionate force is always used and civilians are often the main victims.

Gaza has been under a crippling Israeli blockade since 2007, a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.
