More than five hundred protestors condemned the ongoing blockade and bombing of Gaza, while waving Palestinian flags and anti-Israeli placards and chanting slogans like “Free Free Palestine”, “End the siege of Gaza”, “We are all Palestinians” and “Israel is a terrorist state”.

Demonstrators later heard from several speakers including Baroness Jenny Tonge, Labour MP, Andy Slaughter, a former Palestinian footballer and hunger striker, Mahmoud Sarsak, and chair of Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Hugh Lanning.

Baroness Jenny Tonge said: ˈwe must not forget with everything else going on in the Middle East the terrible suffering that is going on in Gaza.”

“The people there are going hungry, being poisoned and deprived of their human rightsˈ, she added.

Andy Slaughter thanked the crowd for supporting the Palestinian people and said, ˈthere are people in the UK that care, people have a sense of justice, and overwhelming support for Palestinian human rights.ˈ

Mahmoud Sarsak paid tribute to the protestors, and said,ˈPalestinians are steadfast because of your support.ˈ

Hugh Lanning, chair of Palestine Solidarity Campaign, said, ˈno more bombs, no more siege, no more settlements, no more… the world looks on whilst Israel blockades, punishes and steals. It is time for this to end.ˈ

The rally was called by Palestine Solidarity Campaign and supported by several other organisations such as Stop the War Coalition, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Palestinian Forum in Britain, British Muslim Initiative, Jews for Justice for Palestinians, Friends of Al-Aqsa UK, Liberal Democrats Friends of Palestine and Public and Commercial Services Union.
