IAEA General Conference held in Vienna

The 54th General Conference of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is being held in the Austrian capital, Vienna.

The five-day conference has started on Monday, September 20, and will run through to Friday, September 24.

Iran was one of the members of board of directors in the second day of the conference on Tuesday. Iranian Ambassador to IAEA Ali-Asghar Soltanieh presided over part of the session.

Senior representatives of the 151 member states of the IAEA have taken part at the 54th annual general conference, being held at the Vienna International Center, to discuss major topics on the organization’s agenda.

Measures such as improving activities concerning nuclear sciences and technology and nuclear safety and security are among issues to be discussed in the conference.

On the first day of the meeting, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Ali-Akbar Salehi, called on the international community to put pressure on Israel to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

“Establishing a world free of nuclear weapons is one of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s priorities,” Iran’s nuclear chief said at the IAEA General Conference.
