IAEA report confirms Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful: Soltanieh

The Iranian ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency has said that the new IAEA report confirmed that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful.

“The agency’s report once again confirmed that Iran’s nuclear activities, including enrichment, are peaceful, and it conveys an important message to the international community,” Ambassador Ali Asghar Soltanieh told the Persian service of the Fars News Agency on Sunday in reference to the IAEA report on Iran’s nuclear program which was published on Friday.

“The report illustrates that all Iran’s nuclear activates are supervised by the International Atomic Energy Agency, and each gram of uranium is under control and is used in Iran for peaceful purposes,” he added.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the IAEA report said that Iran had finished installing centrifuges at the Fordo uranium enrichment facility and could sharply increase production of enriched uranium to a purity level of 20 percent.

It said Iran had prepared 700 more centrifuges at the facility for operation since August, doubling the plant’s enrichment capacity.

The report also said that Iran had installed 2,800 centrifuges at Fordo, the total the facility is designed to hold. But half were not ready to begin operation.

Soltanieh also pointed to a new round of talks between Iran and the IAEA, which is scheduled to be held in Tehran on December 13, and said that the negotiations could help clear up ambiguities if the atmosphere of the talks is calm and political commotion is avoided.
