ICRC Chief: Syrian Government has Honored Pledges to Facilitate our Work

Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer said that the Syrian government has lived up to its pledges to take extra measures to facilitate the international body’s work for providing humanitarian aid to the citizens hit by the current events.

In an interview with AFP on Friday, Maurer said that his visit to Damascus last September improved the ICRC work, adding ”We are hopeful that the scope of our work in Syria will expand and that more will be done.”

”The most important thing for us is that the parties to the conflict in Syria respect the motto and role of the International Red Cross as a neutral and independent body, and that we are allowed access to the locals hit by the current events, ” he added.
