IIPU talked major Muslim world issues

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani says major challenges facing the Islamic world were brought up in an extraordinary summit of Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IIPU) in Abu Dhabi.

“During this conference, the focus was on major issues of the Islamic world,” Larijani told reporters on Thursday upon returning from the UAE.

He said that the existing situation in Palestine, Lebanon, Sudan, Tunisia, Gaza siege, the destruction of Islamic monuments by Israel, and the expulsion of Palestinians were among the issues discussed in the meeting.

The Iranian official pointed out that during the IIPU meeting, the attendees reiterated that Islamic countries like other states have the right to use peaceful nuclear technology.

The participants also agreed that Islamic states should take concrete steps to help the Palestinian nation, including the besieged people of Gaza.

Larijani went on to say that certain amendments were also made to the IIPU Charter, including the executive council.

The Iranian official held constructive talks with officials and parliament speakers of the UAE, Kuwait, Iraq and Sudan during his two-day stay in Abu Dhabi.
